Personally all I do is check out tech, video game, and street fashion blogs on the internet rather than look for current events in the news or politics. It is just not what I am into.
As for everyone else, I think the new media makes it easier to access political issues and definitely more interesting with all the youtube videos out there or the Colbert report doing its thing. Don't forget Jon Stewart, too.
I feel that this would lead to a steady or at least a small increase in the number of young adults involved with current events but as a whole I think there is a rather large disinterest in politics.
Young kids would rather laugh out a political figure than be interest in their endeavors and maybe that is because George W. Bush is so easy to poke fun at. But he still is the President and holds a lot of power.
Just an opinion.

I'll have to agree with you about the new media making the younger generations more engaged in politics. I'm like you in the sense that politics don't interest me much at all, but I have actually watched a few YouTube videos and even searched information on the candidates thanks to the Internet. It's cool that the new media is engaging the digital generation in innovative ways. Nice post.
